Tech companies have scared the pants off of landlords since COVID-19 in March by announcing permanent shifts to virtual workplaces. First Twitter announced it would allow employees to work from home permanently following the pandemic. Two days later, Facebook announced half of its workforce would go virtual over the next decade. Shopify, Dropbox, and Microsoft added to the long list of companies eyeing a permanent shift to all-day-pajamas and video happy hours.

VIRTUAL REMOTE INTERNSHIP:
THE NEW NORMAL - OPEN ALL YEAR ROUND
The COVID-19 pandemic has turned the workplace upside down, requiring workforce to mature faster, and to adopt new ways of collaboration while staying independent remotely. This is going to be the way you will need to embrace internship. Going forward, internship opportunities may be far few and in between, with greater challenges faced by those who are looking to embrace global cross-border exposure.
Having witnessed struggles from those determined to have cross-border experiences, in particular, International Students, Variantz has come up with the “Flexible Remote Internship (FRI)". What it means:
A minimum of 1-month attachment with Variantz instead of 3 or 6-months internship duration, full or part-time, with no requirements on minimum committed hours. This is to meet individual lifestyle and constraints;
Under the FRI program, the candidate only needs to focus on the appropriate level of Demonstration + Delivery of outcome based on what he/she is good at in order for the reporting manager to assess and attest to those capabilities.
Instead of taking on a full spectrum of the real-life role which can be overwhelming and traumatizing, the candidate will only need to identify what he/she can do so that the experience is focused and is able to deep dive in both self-exploration and delivery of outcome.
Unless requested by the reporting manager, the candidate is to complete the internship physically anywhere away from the office location so long as the candidate is Responsive + Responsible + Reliable. This helps the candidate understand the future of the mobile workforce, time management, and communication.
The candidate will only need to self-identify and propose deliverables and its checkpoints, milestones, outcomes, to be agreed mutually by both the candidate and the reporting manager. This will help position the candidate from being a generalist to a specialist.

We provide opportunities for you to put into practice what you have learned, and pick-up what is missing to function stunningly;
To instill in you the reality and the right work ethics of working in this function, industry, anticipate and respond appropriately
The 'ADD' principle throughout the internship program - Adapt > Demonstrate > Deliver
Adapt: Things are always happening around you, anytime, anywhere. Here we will kick-start you by pointing out what's a 'Must' and we will observe and guide you along on how you rationalize and leading into 'What's Next?' thought process. We get you going with 'What' 'Who" "When" and provide guidance as you get hands-on searching and identifying the "Where", "Why", "How". To succeed, you need grit, diligence, critical thinking, and initiative.
Demonstrate: The best way to learn is to demonstrate! Here we will push you to the limit, guide, and assess how you soak in what you have explored and adopted so that you can put it to good use in the right context. Most call this the "Aha, let's do it!" moment but in a real-world environment, meaning all things have to be Deadline + Outcome Driven.
Deliver: All things do come to an end. Here at Variantz, it is not about wiping your hands clean and walk-off thinking 'it's over'. Rather, from time to time, folks from the team will sit (or walk) with you and do some self-reflections and help you to fine-tune yourself. For all the things you have explored, adapted, and showed, did you achieve the desired outcome? How did you measure yourself? How can you bridge the gap?
