IoT technology allows hotel owners to optimize the conditions within their hotel, deliver a more personalized experience for guests and reduce waiting times. In terms of operations, the automation and real-time data can help companies to identify problems earlier, and even prevent some problems from ever occurring.

  • Quick and Simple check-in: By using the hotel's check-in application and digital room key, guests can skip the queue at the check-in desk – just what they need after a long flight.

  • A premium in-room experience: Key devices (such as the lighting, heating or AC systems and the blinds or curtains) with IoT capability can be linked to the hotel’s systems through a central controller and the devices automatically regulate the environment.  It enables guests to use their phones to personalize the conditions in their rooms.

  • Entertainment with voice control: The ease with which a room’s entertainment devices can be connected to a hotel’s systems makes it simple to implement voice control. Using voice recognition and simple commands, guests can turn the TV on or off or adjust the volume regardless of where they are in the room.

  • More Rapid Guest Services: Guests could use voice commands to arrange a session at the hotel spa through a smart hub or select room service options using a touch-screen device.
  • Interactive Hotel Maps: Guests install the Hotel app on their personal smartphones and then point the phone at one of the interactive maps to find out more about hotel services, local information, tourist attractions and other points of interest.

  • Personalize In-room Entertainment: IoT-enabled entertainment devices allow greater personalization of a guest’s entertainment. For example, guests might want to log into Netflix from the hotel’s TV or access their Spotify playlist through the room’s smart speakers.

  • Energy Measure: Improve the use of energy by learning exactly where the consumption is going and when there’s room for savings.

  • Flood Prevention: Receive instant notification of water leaks to stop any damage and improve water conservation.

  • Air Quality and Environment: Measure air temperature to control AC and heating usage. Learn when there is room occupancy to turn it on or off accordingly and detect any dramatic change in temperature.

  • Predictive Maintenance:  Predictive maintenance takes preventive maintenance one-step further by using sensor data to recognize hazardous trends and alert the appropriate maintenance engineer before the issue escalates. Predictive maintenance empowers you to make highly accurate guesses about where what to repair when. It focuses human attention where and when it’s most needed.

  • Panic Button: can be assigned to staff members or guests to assist management during an emergency. It gives the capacity to locate employees in real time so personnel can respond more quickly to an emergency.
